About us
The first small group of Vietnamese students came to study at Ghent University in the academic year 1996-1997. Since then, the number of Vietnamese students coming to Ghent has been increasing year by year. Vietnamese Student Association in Ghent (VinaSAG) was established in 2000. The purpose of the association that time was to cater the need of information exchange among Vietnamese students, between who had graduated and those who were still studying.
VinaSAG currently has about 50 Vietnamese members who are enrolled at Ghent University. However, VinaSAG still has the connection with many other Vietnamese students who have been in Ghent.
Since the establishment, VinaSAG has been expanding its activities in other aspects such as cultural exchange, sports, study… to which many students from other countries joined in.
VinaSAG was officially recognized by Ghent University as an international student association in February, 2008. VinaSAG is now one of four members of Bijzonder konvent (BK). BK and other councils are managed by DSA of Ghent University.
Below are our main objectives
- to be a forum for its members to exchange information regarding study and stay in Gent. It is a place where members help each other in academic, cultural, sport and entertainment activities and life
- to create the connection among graduated Vietnamese students from Ghent University, current Vietnamese students in Gent and scholars who want to study in Gent
- to assists Vietnamese students in exchanging scientific, cultural, sport and entertainment activities with Belgian and international students who are studying in Gent, Belgium.
- to coordinates its activities in Gent with those of Vietnamese student associations in Leuven (VINAKUL), Brussels (SIVIBI) and in other countries (United Kingdom, USA, the Netherlands, and Germany etc.)
- to encourages its members and related parties care about the native country through raising charity funds for people and students who encounter life difficulties and misfortunes in Vietnam
As a member of BK and partially financially supported, we expect that VinaSAG is a place where members can have helps, can feel shared, can learn from other members, can learn and entertain from its activities and can contribute to the people who are in need.
